nourishing yourself with seeds
Seeds harmonize all plant material on Earth. Seeds feed the birds, the bees, us and our 4-legged friends. Seeds hold delicate, nutrient dense amino acids, the vitamins and minerals moisten our skin, nourish our glands, improve memory, burn fat, lubricate our joints, balance our hormones and relieve allergies.
My inspiration for making the Seed Series inspire people to eat these nutrient dense seeds that carry the foundation of life. Think about it, some of these seeds develop to become plants and flowers that we all know and have seen for most of our lives -- sunflowers, pumpkins, and marijuana. Even though I didn't talk about poppy seeds, they are California's state flower and opium is derived from it. There is so much potency that comes from these magical seeds.
The problem is that people don't realize how powerful just a tablespoon could be towards their vitality. These seeds are loaded with fiber, protein, healthy fats, a balance of essential fatty acids like Omega 3's, 6's, and 9's, calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, are anti-inflammatory, provide energy, and cardiovascular health, lowers cholesterol levels, helps maintain healthy weight. So, I thought I'd share some knowledge about these abundant plants.
Seeds can be lightly roasted, ground to a powder, cooked into baked goods.
1-2 tablespoons of seeds at each meal provides significant amount of nutrient density
P U M P K I N S E E D S // Used in traditional Chinese medicine, pumpkin seeds help with sleep, mood, sexual function, immune support, prostate health & are anti-parasitic.
TIP: soak for 8 hours before eating to encourage the production of beneficial enzymes & increase the amounts of vitamins, especially B vitamins.
C H I A S E E D S // Mayan and Aztec cultures used chia seeds to boost their energy. This ancient seed also prevents depression, helps give you a flawless complexion, improves digestion and reduces overall weight.
The seeds become jelly-like when added to liquid. this expansion help you feel full, in a good way to start with 1 teaspoon and work your way up to 1 tablespoon, and drink lots of water. Stay gold.

H E M P S E E D S // From the cannabis sativa plant, hemp seeds are a complete and easily digestible protein. It's fatty acid content stimulate skin and hair growth, maintain bone health, regulate metabolism, and help the brain function.
Being a complete protein (really helpful for vegetarians/vegans), hemp seeds improve muscle control and the maintenance of cells, muscles, tissues, and organs.
It's a safe seed, and can be eaten by those intolerant to nuts, gluten, sugar, or lactose. There are no allergies to have hemp food. They taste like pine nuts.
They won't to get you stoned, but energetically they'll make you feel higher.
S U N F L O W E R S E E D S // Native to North America, the Helianthus Annus, this beautiful and voluminous sunflower holds these strengthening seeds.
It's rich in magnesium, the antistress mineral. Therefore, sunflower seeds keep you calm, so you can soothe your nerves, brush the stress off, and chill in a happy state.
S E S A M E S E E D S // The essence of yin & yang in traditional Chinese medicine is a philosophical and spiritual approach to healing through high frequency foods that are alive. Our “chi” or our life force is enriched and protected by what we put in our bodies. Our bodies behave tops when it is in ultimate balance.
In TCM, the kidney is related to sexuality, creativity, libido, sexual attraction and gives birth to artistic creation. However, it is also the deepest organ of fear and fright. It is most damaged by stress, so find the balance between challenging/ stimulating and rest/reflection.
Black sesame seeds nourish the kidney, as well as anything black or very dark in color. Sesame seeds lessen inflammation and heighten brain activity.
F L A X S E E D S // We live in a space with environmental pollutants from non-organic livestock, plastic, pharmaceutical drugs, solvents, car exhaust, etc. These pollutants cause estrogen mimicking compounds called xenoestrogens, which cause hormone disruption, pre/post natal abnormalities, infertility, reproductive cancers, and autoimmune diseases.
Flax seeds contain lignans, which are phytoestrogens. They help the body balance estrogen and help flush away the bad guys, naturally. They are extremely anti-inflammatory and do wonders for you if you’re colon is sluggish. Grind them, sprinkle them, bake with them, just drink water with them.
what can YOU do with seeds? Put them in a jar so you're guaranteed a little of each, in salads, smoothies, baking, dip, eat them at the ballpark or the playground. Anything.
